Description:

The Social Services Worker diploma program provides a two-year orientation to Community and Social Services Work from a Professional Social Work perspective. The program prepares students for entry level positions in Community Counselling, Child Welfare, Corrections, and other Social Service-type work. It also lays the foundation for continued education to the Bachelor of Social Work degree and beyond. The goal of the program is to prepare graduates with the skills necessary to work within the cultural context of Nunavut. The courses are based on the principles and values of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit so that students may achieve the fullest understanding and development of the whole person. Students also gain skills so that they can use this knowledge in their community environments.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
    Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent or pass the appropriate Arctic College placement exams with acceptable scores. Mature candidates (21 years of age or older) who do not meet such academic requirements will also be considered.

    • Statement of Research Interests
    Three letters of reference must be submitted as well as a statement of interest in the Social Services Worker field. A criminal record check must also be completed.
