Description:The Ph.D. in Humanities is an interdisciplinary degree program designed for full-time study. It provides a stimulating and rigorous setting for highly qualified students to pursue advanced scholarship and make an original contribution to knowledge. The program was established in 1973 and is located in the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Society and Culture (CISSC). The Ph.D. program attracts an exceptionally talented and diverse peer group of scholars and artists. It demands rigorous practice in more than one discipline and only candidates with high academic standing and exceptional academic ability are accepted.

Applicants submit research proposals indicating the multidisciplinary scope of their program of study. They choose one major field of study, often within the same discipline as their Master's degree, and two minor fields. Applicants also identify a thesis advisory committee whose members are their major and minor field advisors.

Applicants whose prior degrees are not from an English or French-speaking university are required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores.TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for up to 2 years after the test date.
