This is a challenging and rewarding program that prepares you with the knowledge and skills to assist in assessing, designing, implementing, monitoring, and modifying behavioural interventions to meet a variety of client needs including, but not limited to, those on the autism spectrum. You will learn how to apply ethical principles in the use of behavioural interventions, use appropriate statistical methodology to document, analyze client progress, use non-aversive behavioural supports to manage and reduce dangerous and disruptive client behaviours, and to recognize and respond appropriately to the programming needs of your clients.
There is currently a shortage of trained behavioural interventionists in Nova Scotia. Students who successfully complete this program will be prepared to provide direct client services in diverse settings including: schools, group homes, residences, workshops, outpatient mental health services, hospitals, early intervention programs, child protection agencies, correctional facilities, youth health centres, community service agencies, addictions, or in First Nations health centres, treatment centres, and child and family services. |

A post-secondary degree in a social science or a two-year Human Services diploma, or five years of relevant work experience in a related field. |
