Description:

This PhD specialization covers applications of the disciplines of economics and statistics to topics of relevance for business or business related government policy. Applications include business strategy and international business drawing on insights from industrial organization and international economics. Topics in which faculty members have expertise include entrepreneurship and venture capital finance, international trade and investment; international trade policy, environmental management and policy, industrial organization, competition policy, and public enterprise and regulation. Graduates have been placed very well and have obtained positions at institutions such as Tsinghua University, INSEAD (the leading business school in continental Europe), New York University, Queen's University, York University (the Schulich School of Business), Concordia University, the City University of Hong Kong, and the World Bank.

    A Master's degree is typical but not an absolute requirement; in exceptional cases, direct admission may be permissible on the basis of a first university-level degree with first-class standing. Training in economics and/or quantitative disciplines such as mathematics or statistics would be a typical background for qualified students.

    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Computer Based) [min. 250] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 100] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 600] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 7.0] or Michigan English Language Assessment Battery [min. 84]
    Application Notes : Official copies of GMAT and/or GRE scores are required. There are no official cut-off levels for these scores, but the average score of successful applicants is about the 95th percentile.
