Description:

SVSU’s special education program provides a supervised teaching experience in the first year of enrollment, allowing you to experience teaching before enrolling in Education courses. Prior to student teaching, teacher candidates have field-based experiences with students, teachers and administrators. Special education teacher candidates earn a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education. They will complete requirements for K-12 endorsement in Autism Spectrum Disorder or Cognitive Impairment, and become eligible for certification as a general education teacher.

Secondary Special Education majors must complete professional studies requirements and choose either an approved major available for secondary certification; or complete two minors from the list of minors available for secondary certification.
