Description:

The International Studies degree is an interdisciplinary program that combines courses from various departments in the Faculty of Arts. It provides students with necessary intellectual tools to study the relationships between the local, regional, international and global levels on the one hand, and the complex connections and interactions between society, culture, politics, economics and the environment on the other hand. It aims foster students’ creative and critical abilities to understand contemporary issues of global dimensions as well as the challenges they pose to specific regions.

A unique aspect of the program is its integration of international and regional area studies. This aspect of the program enables students to explore global processes and structures that connect and affect countries across the globe. Students at the same time acquire research skills for an in-depth study of different regions of the world, and they are encouraged to situate their area of specialization in the broader context of these global processes and structures. The blending of international and area studies best serves the goal of developing an adequate understanding of how global processes are actually lived and experienced in specific locales and regions and how specific regions react and respond to global challenges that they face.
