Description:

Medical Laboratory Science which includes Diagnostic Cytology is a regulated health profession. Michener’s Diagnostic Cytology program is accredited by the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) Conjoint Committee on Accreditation and graduates are eligible to write the national certification examination conducted by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS). Successful completion qualifies the graduate to seek employment across Canada; those wishing to practise in Ontario must also register with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO). Graduates receive Michener’s Graduate Diploma in Diagnostic Cytology and may apply for advanced standing at York University (Atkinson College) and in the Bachelor of Health Administration program at Ryerson University.

    Applicants to the Diagnostic Cytology program must possess qualifications from either of these two options: a) Canadian certified Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT), CGPA will be calculated using entire undergraduate degree. Minimum CGPA of 70% must be attained in order to be considered. The second option is to have a Bachelor of Science degree AND one (1.0) full university course in Human Anatomy (2 semester-length courses) AND one (1.0) full university course in Human Physiology (2 semester-length courses) with a minimum grade of at least 70%. All body systems must be studied. The course AP601-Anatomy and Physiology for Health Care Professionals, offered through The Michener Institute’s Continuing Education department is accepted as an equivalent for both university level credit pre-requisites. CGPA will be calculated using entire undergraduate degree. Minimum CGPA of 70% must be attained in order to be considered. Please visit the website for complete program requirements.

    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Computer Based) [min. 250] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 100] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 600] or Test of Written English (part of TOEFL) [min. 5] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5]
    Application Notes : Since all lectures, seminars, and clinical laboratory sessions are conducted in English, an adequate knowledge of written and spoken English is essential for student success.This requirement of proficiency in English may be satisfied by passing ONE of the following English language assessments: the Michener English Language Assessment (MELA) measures English Language proficiency in four skill areas: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing - a minimum score of 8 on all components is required to be considered for admission to Michener programs; International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - an overall score of 6.5 with all components (bands) of the test being at a 6 or above (‘academic’ test format is required); or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and Test of Written English (TWE) - the scores required for TOEFL are a minimum TOEFL score of 100 (iBT) with a minimum of 22 on the Writing Section or 250 (computer) or 600 (written) and TWE of 5.0. Unless applicants have written a TWE along with the paper-based TOEFL test, they will be required to write that portion of the assessment. Only tests taken in the last two years are considered valid.
