Description:

The Graduate Program in French Studies offers a dynamic curriculum that focuses on a contextualized understanding of the languages, literatures, and cultures of France, Québec, and the Francophone world. Students may specialize in literature or linguistics, or propose a research program combining both fields.

    A first-class Honours B.A. with specialization in an area of French or francophone literatures, a M.A. with specialization in an area of French or francophone literatures, or a M.A. or a first-class Honours B.A. in a related field and evidence of having completed sufficient work in an area of French or francophone literatures to reach a level considered satisfactory by the department.
    Test Scores:
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Computer Based) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 90] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5] or Michigan English Language Assessment Battery

    All applicants have to submit transcripts from all past post-secondary study.

    Applicants from a university outside Canada in which English is not the primary language of instruction must provide results of an English language proficiency examination as part of their application.

    Admission to the PhD program is by application and requires an evaluation of the applicant’s previous work and capacity to pursue and complete original research.
