If you have a strong interest in analytical thinking and solving complicated mathematical problems, then this degree could suit you. If you enjoy Mathematics or have an aptitude for logical thinking, then UCD’s four-year degree in Mathematical Science is an ideal choice for you. Set up in response to the demands of business and industry for young people trained in analytical thinking, it is a highly respected and fully flexible programme in which you can choose to pursue those areas of the Mathematical Sciences that most interest you, specialising in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematical Physics or Statistics.

You will learn the accurate and concise language of Mathematics that underpins many of the technological advances of the modern world, a language recognised as essential for a true understanding of nature and for the efficient communication of that understanding. You will learn how to solve quantitative problems, how to model mathematically a wide variety of real-world problems and how to present your solutions clearly.

Prerequisites:

    Domestic applicants require passes in six subjects (including two at minimum HC3) including: Irish, English, Mathematics (minimum Grade B1 LC Higher Level), one laboratory science subject, and two other recognised subjects.

    Grade 12 Secondary School Diploma: The minimum for consideration is minimum score of C in six subjects, which includes a minimum of B in two subjects, with English and specific programme requirements.
