|Description:||Mechanical Engineering is the design, production, and use of mechanical systems that control and transform energy. Mechanical Engineers deal with systems that involve motion such as aircraft, automobiles, robots, hydraulic control systems, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems in buildings. Mechanical Engineers are trained in statics, dynamics and vibrations, heat transfer and fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, controls and mechatronics, material science, analysis and synthesis of mechanical systems, and manufacturing. This training helps Mechanical Engineering graduates to work in a wide variety of industries around the world.
The core courses offer the essential background for a knowledgeable and flexible professional. By choosing certain electives, students have the opportunity to tailor their education to match their career paths. Examples of electives include: advanced materials, aerodynamics, applied mechanics, computational fluid dynamics, fire protection engineering, fluid power, robotics, and thermal systems design. Industrial design project courses held in second and fourth year are key to the Mechanical Engineering program, providing students with an opportunity to apply engineering expertise to real-world issues. Students in the College of Engineering have an opportunity to obtain work experience for a period of 8, 12 or 16 months between their third and fourth years. Students are paid a salary comparable to that of a graduating engineer.
