Description:

The modern world has seen vast technological innovations, particularly in the media. This program is a unique Joint Program between U of T Scarborough and Centennial's Centre for Creative Communication (CCC), allowing students to get the best of both worlds: the academic research strength of U of T Scarborough and the industry experience and reputation of CCC. New Media Studies explores the effects of digital technology on traditional forms of media as well as how new forms of cultural representations are created, consumed, and shared. Students will frame their understanding of the theories of new media with development of their aptitude with the most up-to-date digital technology. The program also brings a focus on content creation using digital tools for many kinds of interactive media, including the manipulation of images, text and sound.

The New Media Studies program must be taken in combination with another Major program in another field. Students will earn a four-year Honours B.A. degree taking courses at both U of T Scarborough and Centennial College of Applied Arts & Technology, and may undertake a portfolio project, a field placement, and a professional practice course to also qualify for a certificate in New Media Design from Centennial College.
