| Nurse practitioners are part of the front-line team providing primary health care to Canadian citizens. Become a family nurse practitioner in a primary care setting and assess, diagnose, and treat common ailments for clients of all ages. This full-time, two-year intensive degree requires your continuous registration in three terms per year for two years. The Nurse Practitioner option is practice-oriented and theory-based, intended to prepare you for registration and advanced practice as a family nurse practitioner. Graduates of the N.P. option are eligible to write College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia N.P. registration exams. As the N.P. program builds on your knowledge, skills, and abilities as an R.N., it is expected you will have current knowledge of basic anatomy, pathophysiology and pharmacology, and skills in physical assessment. |

Applicants will usually hold an undergraduate degree in Nursing with a minimum B+ average in the last two years of graded university-level course work. Students must provide official verification of active practicing registration as a registered nurse (or the equivalent in the jurisdiction[s] in which the student is taking the program). Active practicing registration must be maintained for the duration of the program.A minimum of two years of relevant practice experience is usually required. Applicants to the Nurse Practitioner program must be residents of British Columbia. |
