Design students develop knowledge and skills in three areas: scenery, costume and lighting. You'll test your skills through practical applications in department productions. You’ll specialize in one area of design with a minor specialization in another. For your final project, you’ll design one or more elements of a fully-realized production.

Applicants must have a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts with a minimum standing of B+. Applicants must have a basic knowledge and some experience in design of scenery, costume, and lighting. They should also possess at least a survey knowledge of Western Theatre History and an acquaintance with the art of directing. A candidate’s knowledge may be assessed by a diagnostic examination. |
| Application Notes : | All design applicants must send a portfolio of their design work to the Department of Theatre. Applicants to other areas are invited to submit supplementary material of their work that they feel may enhance their application, including: digital recording of acting scene, lesson plan for a workshop in applied theatre areas, stage manager's prompt script, photographs of sewing projects, a directorial concept for a play they have either directed or would like to direct, and writing samples. |
