Description:

The Cardiovascular Perfusion program at Michener is accredited by the Canadian Medical Association (CMA). Graduates are eligible to write the certification examinations of the Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion and the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion and are employed in cardiac surgery centres across Canada and the United States.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
    Applicants to the Cardiovascular Perfusion program must possess qualifications from either of the following two options: a) applicants are required to have a Bachelor of Science degree AND Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Registered Nurse (RN) AND Critical care experience within the last 5 years. CGPA will be calculated using entire RT/RN diploma/degree (minimum required CGPA is 75%). Applicants are required to submit all documents relevant to training and/or experience (resume or CV), and a letter from an employer stating a minimum of one year of critical care experience within the past five years (if applicable). For the second option, applicants are required to have a Bachelor's degree AND successful completion of each of the following university courses: Gross Human Anatomy, Gross Human Physiology, Algebra or Calculus, General Physics (course must cover the following: Newtonian laws, fluid dynamics and fluid statics), and chemistry (course must cover the following: Structure of matter; solutions, acid /base theory, thermodynamics). Applicants are required to have a minimum of 0.5 credit (1 semester-length course) for each prerequisite with minimum grade of 70%. CGPA will be calculated using entire undergraduate degree (minimum required CGPA is 75%). Please visit the website for complete program requirements.

    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 100] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 600] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Computer Based) [min. 250] or Test of Written English (part of TOEFL) [min. 5]
    Application Notes : Since all lectures, seminars, and clinical laboratory sessions are conducted in English, an adequate knowledge of written and spoken English is essential for student success.This requirement of proficiency in English may be satisfied by passing ONE of the following English language assessments: the Michener English Language Assessment (MELA) measures English Language proficiency in four skill areas: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing - a minimum score of 8 on all components is required to be considered for admission to Michener programs; International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - an overall score of 6.5 with all components (bands) of the test being at a 6 or above ('Academic' test format is required); or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and Test of Written English (TWE) - the scores required for TOEFL are a minimum TOEFL score of 100 (iBT) with a minimum of 22 on the Writing Section or 250 (computer) or 600 (written) and TWE of 5.0. Unless applicants have written a TWE along with the paper-based TOEFL test, they will be required to write that portion of the assessment. Only tests taken in the last two years are considered valid.
