Description:

The rapid growth in the mining industry has created an ever increasing demand for a variety of specially trained people in the fields of geology, diamond drilling, and mining (miners and supervisors) here in Newfoundland and Labrador and elsewhere in Canada . Specifically in the field of geology, there is presently a demand for geological assistants trained in field methods to meet the needs of exploration companies and mines. Such training would encompass themes including health and safety, knowledge of field methods, planning and supervision, data manipulation and small equipment operation. Specialized training in specific areas, as well as safety program certifications complete the overall comprehensive training program to fully prepare the candidates for the career he/she will be entering.

Corona College has developed a geological assistant training program that is based on researched models and experience in the industry, combined with the college's extensive experience in the delivery of safety training courses. The demand for well trained, field oriented assistants in Newfoundland and Labrador and northern Canada (NWT, Yukon , Nunavut , and Hudson Bay ) within the near future is very high, and therefore successful completion of the geological assistant training program will be a tremendous and beneficial asset to all who seek a career in the mining industry.

    Students applying for admission into programs at Corona College must have a Provincial High School Graduation Diploma with an overall 60% average. Persons 19 years of age and older may be accepted under our Mature Student Policy, where an assessment would be completed.
