Description:

The Department of Oncology trains students to conduct basic and translational research into mechanisms of cancer causation, detection, imaging, diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The Department offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Oncology and is organized under two specializations “Cancer Sciences” and “Medical Physics”. The Specialization of Cancer Sciences serves the needs of the Divisions of Experimental Oncology, Oncologic Imaging, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care, and Surgical Oncology whereas the Specialization of Medical Physics serves the needs of the Division of Medical Physics. Not all our staff supervise graduate students. Potential graduate students should contact those investigators who state their willingness to supervise graduate students.

Additional Admission Requirements:
    The Department's normal requirements are a minimum GPA of 3.3 or equivalent in the two most recent years (or last 60 credits) of postsecondary education at a recognized institution. Admission to the PhD is dependent on the recommendation of the Graduate Coordinating Committee. The requirements for this degree consist of course work, completion of a research project, and preparation of a thesis.
    Applicants are normally required to have completed a master’s degree, or its academic equivalent, from an academic institution recognized by the University of Alberta.

    An admission grade point average of 3 on most 4-point grading systems or B on most letter grading systems, based on your most recent two years of full time study (or equivalent) is required.
