Description:The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering graduate programs create and maintain excellence in areas at the forefront of research and innovation. An applicant for admission to graduate studies leading to the PhD degree in engineering must normally be a graduate of a recognized university with a master's degree in engineering (MEng) or Applied Science (MASc). Applicants with degrees in related fields will be considered but will normally require strengthening of their engineering background. At the discretion of the Program Graduate Committee, Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) may be required.

Admission Requirements

Test Scores:
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Computer Based) [min. 237] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 580] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 100] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5]

GRE is strongly recommended for students graduating from Universities outside of North America. Applicants are required to have one (1) English language test score: 6.5 IELTS, TOEFL (Internet based), TOEFL (electronic: 237), or TOEFL (paper-based): 580.

For the PhD program, students require a minimum A- GPA. Required Documents: two (2) official transcripts, two (2) references in sealed envelopes, one (1) statement of interest or plan of study, and one (1) application.
