Description:

The Spanish section of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures offers the degree of doctor of philosophy (PhD) in Spanish. The objectives of the Spanish Section are to provide advanced training in Hispanic literature, culture and linguistics, and to make use of the resources offered by the theoretical and comparative interests of the Faculty. The program has two fields of research: Hispanic Literature and Culture; Hispanic Linguistics.

    Applicants must have an MA in Spanish or equivalent degree, with an average of at least 75% (B+). (Please note that our program reserves the right to raise the required grade point average above the level set by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (FGPS).

    Two recommendation letters, official transcripts of all universities attended, resume (must include chronological academic history), letter of intent (setting your interest to pursue graduate work in Spanish at the University of Ottawa) and writing sample in Spanish: an example of written work in your area of interest (12-30 pages) are required. Wherever possible, candidates for admission to the program should be interviewed by a professor or professors assigned by the Section. All inquiries should be addressed to the director of graduate studies in Spanish.
