Description:

This full-time diploma program was developed using the Pharmacy Technician Competency Profile and the Pharmacy Technician Skill Set documents published by the Ontario College of Pharmacists.

The program is 34 weeks in length, and consists of 450 hours of pharmacy technician related theory, 250 hours of practical skills in the school’s well-equipped pharmacy technician classroom and 200 hours of full-time clinical work placement in a pharmacy setting. During the clinical work placement, students participate in both a community pharmacy placement in a drug store and an institutional pharmacy placement in a hospital, long-term care facility, rehab centre, or similar organization. Ideally each placement will be four weeks in length.

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
    Applicants must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, Advanced or qualify for mature student status. Students are required to obtain police clearance with a criminal record check and obtain a medical certificate. Hepatitis B immunization is also strongly recommended. In addition, students must have good oral and written English skills. An admissions interview will be conducted to determine an applicant's suitability for the program.
