Program Information

School:Concordia University - School of Graduate Studies
Faculty:Faculty of Arts and Science
Degree:Master
Field of Study:Philosophy
Description:The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Philosophy attracts students who wish to enhance their research skills and advance their scholarly interests. M.A. students gain a thorough grounding in philosophy from a variety of perspectives, including Anglo-American and Continental-European approaches as well as the history of philosophy.

The program may be completed in one to two years and is designed to prepare for doctoral studies in philosophy or other human and social sciences, CEGEP teaching, and further training in law or other non-academic fields. Given the philosophical insight it offers into societal problems and the broadly applicable skills of clarity of thought, critical reasoning, and careful reflection, the M.A. program often serves as a stepping stone to employment in teaching, law, public service, and business administration. The Department of Philosophy has an excellent placement record for graduating students.
