Description:

Surface mining is not unlike underground mining in essential safety procedures and common knowledge bases. The definition of a surface (open pit) mine is “an excavation or cut made at the surface of the ground for the purpose of extracting ore and which is open to the surface for the duration of the mine's life.“ Therefore training for Surface Hard Rock Miners contains many modules that reflect the nature of surface construction projects, in that emphasis is placed on safety, vehicular and equipment usage, conveyors, crushers, and screens, and open pit drilling and blasting processes.

This program is modeled after the Surface Miner Program developed through the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities, Province of Ontario. However, all components of training are required, and additional modules and safety training certification programs are added.
