Would you like to combine your attention to detail with your desire to help people maintain and improve their health? Then the Pharmacy Technician program could be the right option for you! Pharmacy Technicians perform many tasks including filling and final release of prescriptions, compounding medications and managing day-to-day pharmacy operations.

The objective of the accredited Pharmacy Technician Diploma program is to meet the educational standards for Canadian Pharmacy Technician Programs established by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP). Graduates of CCAPP-accredited programs meet the education requirement of the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP).



Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.

  • 3 of   Mathematics  or   Chemistry  or   Biology 
Applicants are required to have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or the equivalent, or if 18 years of age or over, you may apply as a mature student and write an entrance exam. Ontario grade 12 English or equivalent, as well as Grade 11 or 12: Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry or equivalent, is also required.
Test Scores:
  • International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5] or Michigan English Language Assessment Battery [min. 81] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 91] or CanTEST [min. 4.5]
Application Notes : Language proficiency is an essential skill required for all Pharmacy Technicians. A Pharmacy Technician's ability to communicate is critical in the delivery of safe and effective patient care. For applicants whose first language is not English and: i) have not graduated from a high school in Canada with three consecutive first language English courses/credits, or, ii) obtained an undergraduate degree from a university in Canada, specific English language proficiency scores must be met. Applicants must possess one of the following: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Overall Band 6.5; Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT) – 91; Michigan English Language Arts Battery (MELAB) – 81; The Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees (CANTEST) - 4.5 Speaking, Reading, Listening, - 4.0 Writing. Specific band scores and/or element scores also apply.
Additional Admission Requirements:
    Applicant must: be Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or have Immigration approval; have an assessment Interview to determine suitability for the Pharmacy Technician program; and have a medical report including current immunizations is required for placement. A Criminal background check is required for placement
