Description:

The objective of this program is to equip students with the theoretical and practical competencies necessary to gain employment in a pharmacy environment. The program emphasizes interpersonal skills and a strong sense of responsibility for this client-centred field. Duties, such as preparation of medicine for dispensing, inventory control, drug distribution, narcotics control, and sterilization, are just a sampling of the duties performed by pharmacy technicians.

The Pharmacy Technician (PHT) diploma program is designed to prepare you for a challenging career in a Community/Retail Pharmacy, Hospital Pharmacy, Manufacturing Facility or Long-Term Care Facility. This 40 week diploma program is offered during the day and includes an 8 week co-op placement. Eight weeks of co-op placement combined with 32 weeks of classroom instruction ensures you graduate with confidence in yourself and in your theoretical and practical skills.

Prerequisites:

  • 3 of   Biology  or   Chemistry  or   Mathematics 
Ontario Secondary School Diploma or the equivalent, or if 18 years of age or over, you may apply as a mature student and write an entrance exam; Grade 11 or 12: Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry or equivalent; Grade 12 English.
Test Scores:
  • International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5] or Michigan English Language Assessment Battery [min. 81] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 91]
Application Notes : Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the specific English Language Proficiency scores for the Pharmacy Technician program. Applicants must possess one of the following: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Overall Band 6.5; Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT) – 91; Michigan English Language Arts Battery (MELAB) – 81. Specific band scores and/or element scores also apply.
Additional Admission Requirements:
    Applicants must be Canadian Citizen, Landed Immigrant or Immigration approval. An assessment interview will also be conducted.
