Description:

The Native Education College (NEC) and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) offer an Aboriginal EcoTourism Field School in community and outdoor settings. The field school is an intensive three-week live-in experience that provides hands-on experience in environmental tourism, heritage interpretation and business planning. It is ideal as an introduction to Aboriginal tourism experiences and for mature students who are interested in starting an Aboriginal tourism operation.

This field school provides an effective combination of practical and theoretical skills and knowledge - designed for those interested in an introductory experience in outdoor guiding, cultural interpretation, wildlife guardianship and Aboriginal tourism business development. The program can be adapted to both water and land based ecotourism businesses or cultural interpretation. Students will work with a local community on the feasibility of traditional Aboriginal tourism businesses, including wildlife interpretation and Aboriginal cultural interpretation.
