Description:Economists are central players in setting government policy — from social programs to economic development. In the private sector, they contribute to market research for new products, evaluate the impact of mergers, and assess tax policy. If you’re interested in human resources, the environment, international development, international financial markets, or money and banking, you might consider a major in Economics.

At Saint Mary’s, you can choose to pursue a major or honours in Economics within a Bachelor of Commerce or a Bachelor of Arts degree. There is a student-led tutorial service throughout the academic year, open to students in any Economics class. Economics students at Saint Mary’s also have many opportunities for academic exchange, including Europe, Asia, South America, and Africa.

Bachelor of Arts applicants: Required to have completed English 12 academic, with four additional academic 12 courses. Bachelor of Commerce applicants: Required to have completed English 12 academic; Mathematics 12, Advanced Mathematics 12, Pre-Calculus 12, or Calculus 12; and three additional academic 12 courses.

Test Scores:
  • Canadian Academic English Language Assessment [min. 60] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 550] or CanTEST [min. 4.5] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 80]

If your first language is not English, you must demonstrate that you have the English language skills necessary to be successful in Saint Mary’s University degree programs.
