Description:

The Master's in Music Education at Western provides opportunities for music education professionals working in classrooms, studios, or community spaces to develop their professional knowledge. The Master's degree program provides music educators with access to innovative ideas and practices, helping them to become leaders in the profession.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
    Admission to our Master’s programs requires a four-year honours degree with a major in music or its equivalent from an accredited university. A minimum of a 70% average must have been achieved in undergraduate studies, with normally at least an 80% average in the proposed area of concentration. Note that meeting these minimum requirements is not a guarantee of admission.
    Application Notes : The application is online and administered by Western's School for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. Note that applicants will be required to upload supplementary documents (see full list of admission requirements by program) to the online application.

    MMus in Music Education
    ▪ A Bachelor of Music with specialization in Music Education or its equivalent
    ▪ Preferably also a Bachelor of Education degree and two years of successful music teaching experience (or equivalent experience)
    ▪ One recent essay (2,500-3,000 words) that demonstrate abilities in research and writing
    ▪ A recent music teaching video in a setting of your choosing (15-20 minutes)
    ▪ A statement of interest video (no more than 5 minutes) where you will: 1) Tell us of your experiences as a musician and educator; 2) Speak of the current challenges you see in music education; 3) Tell us why you are interested in our program and the impact it will have in your professional growth.
    ▪ A current resume or curriculum vitae
    ▪ Two confidential letters of reference
