Description:

The MRI and Spectroscopy program was created in partnership between Red River College, Canada's National Research Council Institute for Biodiagnostics (IBD), and several clinical facilities across Canada. This international educational program is designed for qualified medical radiation technologists who wish to excel in the fast growing field of magnetic resonance. The program provides state-of-the-art education on magnetic resonance (MR) instrumentation, methodologies, and techniques. Graduates from this program will be effective in the operation of the instruments, proficient in producing high quality images, and will contribute significantly to optimal utilization of the MR equipment.

In order to provide quality clinical experience, students may be required to train at sites outside the province. Information on placement sites will be available at the time of acceptance. The program prepares technologists to write the National Certification examinations, the standard set by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists and by the American Registry for Radiological Technologists.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
Graduation with a diploma in Medical Radiologic Technology, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Therapy or Ultrasound from a recognized institute or college and submission of a completed Red River College Immunization Records Form (students who will be completing their practicums outside of Manitoba must meet additional requirements as stipulated by their clinical sites) and submission of a Screening Information Form as certain conditions may preclude students from entering the clinical segment of the program and working in the profession.
