Description:Diagnostic imaging is more complex today than ever. In radiology alone, X-rays are now digital and CT scans are one of the most used methods for diagnosing trauma and disease including cancer. Medical Radiation Technologist (MRTs) are the backbone, not just working the technology but also working with patients to put them at ease and ensuring the sharpest possible images. Confederation College can teach you how in our Medical Radiation Technology advanced diploma program. You’ll learn the basics of radiology including X-ray and CT in courses such as general radiology, patient management, radiation safety, quality management, computed tomography (CT) and research methods.

Admission Requirements

Prerequisites:*

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.

Applicants are required to have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent) with courses from the College (C), University (U), University/College (U/C), or Open (O) preparation levels with Grade 12 English (C/U) Level; or successful completion of the Mature Student Assessment; or successful completion of the General Education Development Test (GED); or appropriate credits from the Academic and Career Entrance program (ACE). Applicants are also required to have Grade 12 Math (MCT4C or University Preparation) and Grade 11 or 12 Physics (College or University Preparation) and Grade 11 or 12 Biology OR Chemistry (College or University Preparation), with a minimum final grade of 75% in each required course. If you are currently enrolled in the course, you must have a midterm and final mark of 75% or higher to qualify for selection/admission. If you do not possess the necessary admission requirements (or equivalency), we encourage you to consider our Pre-Health Sciences-Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program which will provide you with the necessary preparation to apply to this program. Completion of the Pre-Health Sciences-Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program does not guarantee admission to the Medical Radiation Technology Program in a subsequent year.

Test Scores:
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 88] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5]

Proof of English proficiency must be current (within two years) and can be provided by either iBT TOEFL or IELTS score. The minimum score for admittance to a graduate certificate or health program is iBT TOEFL: 88 or IELTS: 6.5. Other English language proficiency assessments are accepted. Additional Requirements for eligibility and scoring: Medical Radiation Technology Program Choice Questionnaire - 25% of scoring; Work Experience/Volunteer Work - 5% of scoring; and High School Grades (with minimum 75% in required courses) -70% of scoring. Applicants are also required to submit two reference letters. Due to the high number of applications we receive for the limited seats in this program we are only able to consider applications if the applicant is a permanent resident of Ontario, with a complete application as of February 1st.
