Description:

Orchestrate your musical future with practical and up-to-date training in classical, jazz and contemporary genres. We now offer the opportunity to apply on your preferred instrument/voice to our Applied Music Program. Please select your choice of instrument/voice below to learn more. Applicants may apply to only one Music Stream (contemporary or classical) on the OCAS application. However, any applicants that are unsure to what stream they align can select the contemporary AND classical streams on the supplementary Music Questionnaire. Applications are for one instrument major only. During your audition, you may mention that you play an additional instrument and you may be given further instruction at that time. There may be opportunities to play additional instruments during your studies in ensemble classes.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
  •  Grade12 English 
Applicants are required to have an OSSD or equivalent (Mohawk Academic Upgrading, GED) including Grade 12 English, C or U or equivalent. Applicants are also required to have a background in Music.
Test Scores:
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 550] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.0] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 80]
Application Notes : All classes in Mohawk College are provided in English. Students whose first language is not English are expected to prove their proficiency with one of the following: successful completion of GAS-EAP (478) Program Level 8 with 70%; TOEFL minimum score of 550 (79-80 Internet based); IELTS minimum score of 6.0 overall with no band less than 5.5; or an Ontario Secondary School Diploma & English Credit (Grade 12 U, M or C) issued from a public school board. Applicants are required to audition on an instrument or voice and complete a questionnaire (a fee will apply). Applicant acceptance will be based on ability and talent in a principal instrument or voice.
