Carpenter Apprenticeship is an obvious choice for those who are good at working with their hands and using hand and power tools. Trades Apprenticeship training takes place at the Len Evans Centre for Trades and Technology at Assiniboine's North Hill Campus. Completed in 2010, this 130,000 square foot facility features innovative shops, laboratories and classrooms.
Modern carpentry demands both manual skill and the ability to read drawings, sketches and plans for building information. Carpenters need to work accurately and be able to estimate the cost of jobs. Communication skills are also important since carpenters work with other tradespeople. To be successful in their trade, carpenters must be able to solve mathematical problems quickly and accurately, select materials, plan sequences and methods of work, cut and shape materials, check completed units to ensure they are accurate and work with national and local building codes. |
