Confederation College’s Developmental Services Worker program will give you the skills and experience you need to support individuals in living their life to the fullest. Coursework includes study in developmental disabilities, teaching strategies, health promotion, augmentative communication and assistive technology, pharmacology, dual diagnosis, trends and issues, behavioural supports, counselling skills and community development. If you believe in inclusion, individualization and empowerment for all people in our community, this program will help you reach those goals.

Admission Requirements

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.

  •  Grade12 English 

Applicants are required to have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent) with courses from the College (C), University (U), University/College (U/C), or Open (O) preparation levels with Grade 12 English (C/U) Level; or successful completion of the Mature Student Assessment; or successful completion of the General Education Development Test (GED); or appropriate credits from the Academic and Career Entrance program (ACE). If you do not meet these admission requirements, we encourage you to consider our College Access or General Arts and Science Certificate or General Arts and Science Diploma programs, or Academic and Career Entrance program (ACE); if you successfully complete one of these programs, you will be eligible to apply to programs in the Community Services area.

Test Scores:
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 79] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.0]

Proof of English proficiency must be current (within two years) and can be provided by either an iBT TOEFL or IELTS score. The minimum score for admittance to a post-secondary diploma program (except health programs) is: iBT TOEFL: 79 or IELTS: 6.0. Other English language proficiency assessments are accepted. Please contact the International Education Centre for more details.
