Description:

Early Childhood Educators (ECE) in British Columbia work in a variety of settings supporting the education and care of children ages birth – 12 years, including support for their families. ECE's use their specialized education in early learning to create and maintain an inclusive and safe environment that encourages learning, while being responsive to the children's needs and interests. The daily work can be both physically and mentally challenging, wellness in both of these areas are needed to maintain safety for both the children and the ECE. Working within diverse communities and programs, they use reflective and collaborative practices to encourage children's understanding and engagement with the world.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.

Completion of Grade 12 English or First Peoples 12, with a C or higher.
Application Notes : Completion of a Northern Lights College Application Form and payment of the related fee as well as a copy of a government-issued ID with current full legal name.

To gain a final offer of acceptance into the ECEC diploma program, applicants must complete the designated Program Questionnaire; provide a comprehensive letter stating background, interest, and goals in taking the program; provide two current letters of reference (must be written and dated within the last year), attesting to personal suitability for working with young children; and provide a current certificate of good health from a physician.
