Description:The Railway Conductor (RRCD) program will prepare you for a career in operations in the Canadian railway industry. Taught at SAIT’s Centre for Rail Training and Technology, you will learn in our mini rail yard and through field trips to nearby industry sites. Skills taught include: operating rules and procedures for switching and marshalling rail cars and shipments; forms of communication with Network Management Centres and Yard or Train Planners; the mechanical components of braking systems; and communication signals. The Railway Conductor program has been developed in cooperation with the Canadian railway industry and is offered in collaboration with the Railway Association of Canada (RAC).

The railway industry overall is facing a high rate of turnover due to growth in the industry as well as high levels of retirements. There has been a very high demand for skilled graduates.
