Description:

The Social Service Worker (UT) Diploma prepares you for the social service area and for entry into some universities’ degree programs. After completing a university degree, career opportunities can include child protection, probation, mental health, residential treatment, alcohol and drug programs, and more.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
  •  Grade12 English 
Applicants are required to have successful completion of one of the following: Grade 12 with English 12 or English or 12: First Peoples; or ABE/Academic Upgrading Advanced Certificate plus English 045; or GED Certificate plus English 045 or English 12 or English 12: First Peoples. For all of the options, you must have a minimum “C” grade in English 12 or English 12: First Peoples or English 045. Please visit the website for more information on entry requirements.
Test Scores:
  • International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.0] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 80]
Application Notes : International students are required to have a minimum TOEFL score of 80 (IBT), an IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent as determined by College of New Caledonia, or have completed CNC’s English for Academic Purposes.

Applicants are required to have completion of the English component of the SRA; two references from a Social Service employer, volunteer supervisor, teacher, or social service professional, attesting to their personal suitability for work in this field; and a work/volunteer experience resumé. Applicants must have at least 30 verifiable hours of volunteer experience in the past three years. Applicants are also required to submit a written statement (max. 4 pages) on their interest in the social service field, their understanding of what the field is about, and the personal attributes that would make them a viable candidate for this program.
