Description:

Choosing to study mathematics and statistics at Acadia offers you the opportunity to master complex reasoning skills as well as advanced data collection and analysis methods. With such skills you will be able to influence major decisions in a wide range of sectors, from politics to green energy solutions. Acadia’s Mathematics and Statistics degree gives you the critical tools to understand and solve problems in science, business, and humanities. We offer courses that allow you to build a foundational understanding of all areas of mathematics and statistics. You will be taught to use analytical methods, combined with data collection and interpretation to model the real world. Outside the classroom, you will participate in mathematical contests, national conferences, and summer research while enjoying social events hosted by the department’s student society. Our mathematical modelling and statistical consulting centres support student and faculty research in such diverse areas as security, energy, health, and natural resources.

Applicants are required to have English 12 or English 12: African heritage, and four additional Grade 12 Academic or Advanced courses, including: Precalculus 12 with a minimum 70%. Minimum overall average of 70%.
Test Scores:
  • International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5] or Canadian Academic English Language Assessment [min. 70] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 90]
Application Notes : Since English is the language of instruction at Acadia University, candidates must be able to communicate competently in English both orally and in writing, and students whose first language is not English may be required to present the result of the TOEFL, IELTS, CAEL or PTE Academic. Acadia's English requirements are as follows: TOEFL - 90 IBT with no subtest score below 20; IELTS - 6.5 with no subtest score below 6.0; CAEL - 70 with no subtest score below 60; PTE Academic - 61 with no subtest score below 60; Cambridge English: Advanced - 176 with no subtest score below 169; or MELAB - 80.
