Field of Study:Hair Styling/Stylist and Hair Design
Description:This apprenticeship program provides students with a high level of theoretical and practical training and prepares them to write and perform the practical examination for certification as hairstylists in Ontario. The program consists of two 8-week levels. Thirty hours per week are divided between theoretical instruction in cutting, styling, hair colouring, physiology, hygiene, salon management and in practical hands-on experience.

Students do not apply for this program. Apprentices are invited by MAESD (Ministry of Advanced Education and Skill Development) once registered as an apprentice in-salon for a minimum of 6 months. The typical program of study consists of Basic and Advanced levels (each 8 weeks/240hrs) usually completed with one year between the levels. A mandatory Exam Prep is the 9th week of the Advanced level. Upon the successful completion of the in-school training, completion of the Training Standards book and 3,020 salon hours, an apprentice can qualify to complete their Hairstyling Red Seal Licensing Exam for an additional fee.
