Description:This two-year Ontario College Diploma program, delivered in a compressed format over 45 weeks, prepares students for employment in the heating, refrigeration and air conditioning industry. The goal of the program is to provide students with a foundation of knowledge and skills upon which they can build a lifelong career including the potential for a head start on an apprenticeship. The Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence (ACCE) facility is fully outfitted with up-to-date equipment and tools allowing Algonquin to teach both traditional, as well as advanced technology used in today`s heating, refrigeration and air conditioning industry.

Algonquin College is an accredited provider as approved by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA). This program incorporates the TSSA approved curriculum for Gas Technician 3 (G3) and 2 (G2), and Oil Burner Technician 3 (OBT3) and 2 (OBT2). Students who successfully complete the TSSA examinations are able to install, service, maintain and troubleshoot residential heating systems. Graduates have the potential to enter an apprenticeship in refrigeration and air conditioning through employment with a qualified contractor/employer.

Admission Requirements

  •  Grade12 Mathematics 
  •  Grade12 Foundations for College Mathematics (MAP4C) 

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent. Applicants with an OSSD showing senior English and/or Mathematics courses at the Basic Level, or with Workplace or Open courses, will be tested to determine their eligibility for admission; OR Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) certificate; OR General Educational Development (GED) certificate; OR Mature Student status (19 years of age or older and without a high school diploma at the start of the program). Eligibility may be determined by academic achievement testing for which a fee of $50 (subject to change) will be charged.
