Description:

The Bachelor of Social Work degree is founded on the principles of service. This includes social and economic justice, personal dignity and worth, the importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence. The social worker assists people in achieving an effective level of psychosocial functioning and effecting social change to improve the well being of everyone. The major combines a liberal arts education with preparation for entry-level generalist professional social work. Entrance into the Bachelor of Social Work program includes special requirements; talk to an advisor in the Arts and Sciences Advising Center for details.

    Requirements:

    • University of South Alabama International Application for Admission with the $35 processing fee
    • Academic records detailing course work completed in secondary schools with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 as calculated by the Office of International Admissions and Student Programs.
    • English Proficiency Requirement- submit one of the following (unofficial copies of scores will be accepted for admission, but official copies will be required prior to enrollment)
    • Deposits - A non-refundable admissions deposit of $500 USD will be required of a student before an I-20 or DS-2019 is issued.
    Test Scores:
    • DuoLingo or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration)
    Additional Admission Requirements:

      Students who want to major in social work are admitted to the pre-professional social work major and remain in the pre-professional major until they meet requirements to be admitted into the social work major. Prior to entering the major, please consider consulting with a pre-professional social work advisor from Academic Advising and Transfer Services at the earliest opportunity. The admission policy is applicable to all students: new freshmen, transfer students, students seeking a second bachelor's degree, and students changing their major. In order to be admitted into the social work major, students must meet certain criteria.
