Description:

Take on an important supporting role in occupational therapy and physiotherapy in this client-centered career. The OTA and PTA program at Mohawk has been accredited by the Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant Education Accreditation Program (OTA & PTA EAP) in collaboration with Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada (PEAC) and the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT). The status of Accreditation was granted to the program on April 30, 2014 for the period until April 30, 2020.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.

  •   Biology 
Applicants are required to have an OSSD or equivalent (Mohawk Academic Upgrading, GED) including Grade 12 English, C or U or equivalent; Grade 11 or 12 Biology, C or U; and Grade 11 or 12 Physics or Chemistry, C or U. Volunteer experience is highly recommended in Physiotherapy and/or Occupational Therapy setting. Completion of a mandatory standardized Health Occupation Aptitude Examination (HOAE) (there is a fee of $50.00 for this test). Accepted applicants under the age of 18 may not be permitted to participate in some courses due to legal restrictions such as the Mental Health Act.

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 550] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.0] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 79-80]
Application Notes : All classes in Mohawk College are provided in English. Students whose first language is not English are expected to prove their proficiency with one of the following: successful completion of GAS-EAP (478) Program Level 8 with 70%; TOEFL minimum score of 550 (80 Internet based); IELTS minimum score of 6.0 overall with no band less than 5.5; or an Ontario Secondary School Diploma & English Credit (Grade 12 U, M or C) issued from a public school board.
