The Department of English Studies offers supervision by research at the doctoral level, leading to a PhD. All PhD programmes are watched over by a three-member committee, which is appointed every two years. The Committee is chaired by a Postgraduate Coordinator. While there are no taught PhD programmes, the Department does offer PhD degree schemes in subjects related to all research interest areas of its academic faculty. PhD programmes do not necessarily recruit students every year. Please, check on the relevant announcements of the Graduate School for updated information. Applicants must have a University degree awarded by an accredited institution in the country where it operates, or a degree evaluated as equivalent to a University degree by the Cyprus Council for the Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications (KY.S.A.T.S). Individuals who will be awarded a University degree or Graduation certificate fulfilling the necessary criteria by the end of the week that precedes registration week, are also eligible to apply. Applications for a Postgraduate Programme should include the following: - Application through the Online Application System of the UCY.
- A recognised University Degree.
- University Transcripts as appropriate.
- Curriculum Vitae.
- A short statement (max. two pages) of research goals and interests.
- Two (2) letters of recommendation.
- English Language Certificates (in case the candidate will study in an English-taught postgraduate programme or in case knowledge of the English language is required).
- Other certificates and verifications that will assist the evaluation committee in the evaluation process of the applications, such as employment certificates etc.
- For Applications to a PhD programme: A preliminary research proposal for a PhD place (if this is stated in the departments regulations).
Minimum Admission Criteria for a Postgraduate Programme are: - A recognised university degree or equivalent qualification in a subject related to the programme.
- Grades in related degrees and other certificates.
- At least two recommendation letters.
