Description:

In Humber’s Electrical Techniques - Industrial Electrician Apprenticeship program, students will learn to use computer software to communicate and generate business related documents.

  • learn the Canadian Electrical code in order to comply with mandatory regulations governing the electrical trade
  • become familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act as it pertains to the electrical trade
  • describe the function, application and operation of trade-related measurement tools, hand tools and equipment in order to be able to construct and maintain standard electrical equipment (power circuits, electronics, instrumentation, hydraulic, pneumatic, PLC and other types of control equipment and software)
  • read and create various construction and maintenance drawings and be able to use a drawing to fabricate designs using the appropriate scales employing typical construction materials and service equipment
  • apply electrical principles, concepts and perform associated calculations

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.

    This apprenticeship is regulated by the Ontario College of Trades. You and your employer are required to register through your local Apprenticeship Branch Office of the Ministry of Labour, Immigration,Training and Skills Development (MLITSD).

    You will be scheduled for the in-school portion of training by MLITSD. Apprentices who have been scheduled for the in-school training will be sent an Offer of Classroom Training letter from the MLITSD.

      Becoming an Apprentice

      Find an employer willing to sponsor you as an apprentice.

      Contact the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development to register as an apprentice.

      Work with your employer approximately one year before attending Humber.
