The Art Department at the University of Hawai'i at Hilo provides study in studio art, concentrating primarily in the areas of Drawing, Printmaking, and Painting. The curriculum supports students in the comprehension of art theory, aspects of art history, and the fundamentals of studio practice. Students continuing their education in graduate studies are offered guidance in the development of their portfolio of work which is a requirement for graduate school admission. Other areas of study in the fine arts can be arranged through consultation with the Art Department and College of Arts and Sciences. The University of Hawai'i at Hilo is located on the windward side of the Island of Hawai'i in the bay city of Hilo. This quiet city of 50,000 is 500 miles from the state capital of Honolulu and 2,500 miles from San Francisco. Grade Requirements: 2.7 academic grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale. This is the equivalent of a B or higher. If you have questions about how to interpret the grading system in your country, please contact the Admissions Office. Secondary school transcripts should be sent directly from the schools to the University of Hawai'i Hilo Admissions Office. High School Course Requirements - Three classes of Math (including Algebra, Geometry and Algebra II)
- Three classes of Natural Science (including Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics or other)
- Seven classes of college preparatory classes such as social sciences, foreign languages, mathematics and science
Standardized Test Requirement: The submission of a standardized test is not required for admission. However, by submitting the results of the SAT, ACT, IB Baccalaureate Diploma, or General Certificate of Education A levels, students can possibly receive college credit or be exempted from English language requirements. |
