Description:

Become an expert in the molecular, cellular, and physiological processes of stress adaptation in plants, animals, and microorganisms. Gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge techniques for a career at the forefront of science and R&D.

    Bachelor requirements:

    • Entering the Master’s specialisation in Adaptive Organisms requires a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field of science. Your foreign Bachelor's degree must be equivalent to a Bachelor's degree obtained at a Dutch research university. Please be aware that there are two types of higher education in the Netherlands: a university of applied sciences and a research university. Learn more about the differences. 
    • Students must have passed (preliminary) examinations containing the following subject matter:
    • Genetics (6 credits)
    • Ecology (6 credits)
    • Plant Physiology (6 credits)
    • Animal Physiology (6 credits)
    • Biochemistry (6 credits)
    • Molecular Biology / Genomics (Big Data) (6 credits)
    • Bachelor (final) project including writing a thesis worth at least 10 EC
    • Additional 60 credits of biology-related courses

    Please note: 1 credit is equal to 28 hours of study.


    Students must be familiar with research methods, academic writing and critical thinking, which could be demonstrated e.g. by having completed a final BSc thesis or internship.
