At least 12 months of the 2-year CCM program will involve clinical rotations in Critical Care units. There is also a requirement to complete one month in a community ICU. Rotations will be customized to the individual needs of the resident. The resident will participate in the day to day running of an intensive care unit, the supervision of all junior medical staff, the comprehensive care of critically ill patients, the inter-hospital transport of critically ill patients, and the organization of rounds, seminars and teaching sessions. The resident will gain significant experience in the administrative, quality initiative, supervisory and consultative roles required to function as an attending critical care physician. During each rotation and throughout the course of the 2 year program, the resident will have graded responsibility so that at the beginning they will be involved in primary care to a greater degree and subsequently involved more in a supervisory capacity. |
