Description:

As part of this course you’ll:


Gain the skills to work with children and young people who are experiencing mental health related issues

Develop a critical and in-depth understanding of mental health and its relationship to children, young people and families within a changing and fluid society

Explore medical and psychological models of practice and look at child and adolescent mental health from the position of social intervention

Learn to draw on key interventions such as social pedagogy, relationship-based practice, playwork and community work as methodologies

Use the social model of mental health and children and family practice to contribute to and co-produce knowledge in a collaborative, practical and participatory learning environment

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
    Applicants should either have at least a second class honours degree in a relevant professional subject area of Youth Work, Nursing, Social Work or Education, at least a second class honours degree in the cognate academic subjects of Health and Social Care or Social Sciences, or have equivalent health and social care practitioner experience or relevant professional vocational training.
