Description:

The Department of Greek and Roman Studies offers programs of graduate study leading to the degree of Master of Arts. This degree offers specialization in Classical Languages and Literature, Ancient History, or Classical Archaeology. The two-year M.A. program consists of course work and the composition of a thesis. The M.A. thesis may be written in the areas of classical archaeology, ancient history, and Greek or Latin literature.

    The basic admission requirement is a four-year bachelor degree with at least a B+ (6.0) GPA in one of the several areas of ancient Greek and Roman Studies. All M.A. applicants must be able to demonstrate a well-rounded, comprehensive knowledge of the ancient Greek and Roman worlds. M.A. applicants should ideally have balanced strength in Greek and Latin, or substantial experience in one language and at least basic competence in the other. Competency in reading French, German, or Italian upon admission is advantageous; students will be required to demonstrate reading knowledge of one of these modern languages before completion of the M.A. degree.
