The School of Computing Science offers a full-time master's program in professional computer science allowing students to take courses in areas like data science, data engineering, computer vision, computer graphics, deep learning, computer security, software security and more. This cohort-based program trains computational specialists who can construct models, develop algorithms, and write software using state-of-the-art graduate-level knowledge and techniques. The program has been running since 2014 and has created tremendous value for its graduates.

Students must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science or a related field with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 3.00/4.33 (B) or the equivalent. Alternatively, a minimum GPA of 3.33/4.33 on the last 60 credits of undergraduate courses will also meet the GPA requirements for admission to the program. All graduate work is also considered.

| Application Notes : | English is the language of instruction and communication at the University (SFU). Accordingly, an applicant whose primary language is not English must demonstrate command of English sufficient to pursue graduate studies in the chosen field. Applicants normally will be required to achieve a minimum score of 7.0 on the International English LanguageTest System (IELTS - the academic and NOT the general test) with a minimum of 6.5 in any section.
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) may be used as an equivalent test, where the minimum requirement is a score of 93 or better with a minimum of 20 in each section (TOEFL - internet based exam) or a score of 580 for the paper-based TOEFL plus the Test of Written English (TWE) 5.0.
Any equivalent test must include a writing component and all test scores are valid for a period of two years from the date of the test.
International applicants whose primary language is not English will not be required to complete an English-language test if they have completed a degree at an institution where the language of instruction and examination was in English in a country where English is the primary language. |

In order for students to succeed in this program, it is expected that they have the following knowledge/experience prior to beginning their studies:
Ability to program in Java, Python and C++. Familiarity with programming and ability to learn new languages. Students planning to take courses in computer graphics, computer vision, etc. may not need Java and C++ but need Matlab.
Knowledge of advanced math - calculus, linear algebra and advanced statistics.
Knowledge of data structures and algorithms, databases, and operating systems. |
