Description:

Materials science and engineering focuses on advancing the technology of the materials used in nearly every product from cell phones to medical devices. Material scientists and engineers explore the nature, structure, performance and possible applications of various materials. They also combine chemistry, physics and engineering skills to create new materials and attempt to find new ways to use existing materials.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
    You are eligible to apply to the program if you have earned a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or physical science.
    Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (scale is 4.00 = "A") in the last 60 hours of their first bachelor's degree program, or applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (scale is 4.00 = "A") in an applicable master's degree program.




    All applicants must submit:
  • Graduate admission application and application fee.
  • Official transcripts.
  • Personal statement.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • Up-to-date resume or curriculum vitae.
  • Additional Admission Requirements:
      An applicant whose native language is not English (regardless of current residency) must provide proof of English proficiency.

      The personal statement is an essay describing your background, academic achievements, research interests, career goals and why you wish to pursue graduate study in materials engineering at ASU.

      International students seeking teaching assistantships must demonstrate proficiency in spoken English by scoring at least 26 on the speaking portion of the iBT or 50 on the ASU-administered Speaking Proficiency English Assessment Kit.
