Description:

The online history master’s degree is a thematic program covering a range of time periods and geographic locations. Instead of gaining concentrated knowledge on one specific topic, you’ll instead acquire a wide breadth of historical understanding and consider a variety of historical perspectives.

The online history master’s degree provides the foundation necessary for building an advanced historical perspective while cultivating broadly useful skills. You’ll become more experienced with writing about complicated topics as you complete comparative analyses, historiographies and research papers. Learning history can support your ability to understand the present and shape the future.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
The strongest applicants will have a minimum of a 3.30 cumulative GPA in the last 60 hours of their bachelor's program or in an applicable master’s program. Applicants with a lower GPA might still be accepted.

    All applicants must submit:
  • Graduate admission application and application fee.
  • Official transcripts.
  • Personal statement.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • Up-to-date curriculum vitae or resume.
  • Writing sample.
  • Additional Admission Requirements:
    • An applicant whose native language is not English (regardless of current residency) must provide proof of English proficiency. The history program requires an iBT TOEFL score of at least 90 or a PBT TOEFL score of 600.
    • The personal statement should be about 500 words and should include the applicant’s scholarly background, career goals and why the applicant wants to pursue graduate study at ASU. It is not necessary to specify a historical interest, but the applicant should include it if they have one in mind.
    • It’s recommended that the three letters of recommendation come from professional or academic sources.
    • Applicants are required to submit a writing sample, ideally one with a focus on history. If that is not possible, applicants may submit a paper from the humanities or social sciences.
    • * We make every attempt to provide accurate information on prerequisites, programs, and tuition. However, this information is subject to change without notice and we highly recommend that you contact the school to confirm important information before applying.
