Description:

As a student pursuing the master's in human development and family studies program, you will gain an advanced understanding of the various issues facing children, youth and families. You will also learn how to address these needs and promote healthy relationships. Courses will cover a variety of topics ranging from family relationships and parenting to research and social statistics.

Much of the coursework in this human development degree focuses on skills that can be applied in a variety of human services positions. This program gives you the opportunity to develop your own professional talents in a way that relates to your interests and the communities you wish to serve in your career.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
    Applicants must have a minimum of a 3.00 cumulative GPA in the last 60 hours of their bachelor's program.
    All applicants must submit:
  • Graduate admission application and application fee.
  • Official transcripts.
  • Personal statement.
  • Resume or curriculum vitae.
  • Two letters of recommendation from people who know you as a student or in a professional capacity.
  • Additional Admission Requirements:
      An applicant whose native language is not English (regardless of current residency) must provide proof of English proficiency. The personal statement must be four to five pages, double-spaced. Applicants should address their professional goals and strengths that will enable success in the program and discuss any relevant professional experience or responsibilities. Letters of recommendation must be from at least two academic or professional sources. Family members or friends do not meet this standard.
